Mary Ellen Niefer
Mary Ellen earned her Master’s in Education in Counseling and Human Development from St. Lawrence University and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Mental Health Counseling from the University at Buffalo. She also has a certificate of Advanced study in Mindful Counseling-Wellness and Engagement from the University of Buffalo. Mary Ellen is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the state of New York and has experience working in the mental health and human services fields as an outpatient mental health counselor. She is skilled in providing individual, group, and family therapy.
Mary Ellen’s therapeutic approach is grounded in Rogerian and Adlerian theories, emphasizing a strengths-based, positive, and individualized perspective. She is committed to understanding each client’s unique experiences and helping them tap into their insight and resilience. Using a trauma-informed lens, Mary Ellen integrates evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based practices.
Mary Ellen recognizes the courage it takes to begin the therapeutic journey and strives to create a supportive, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space. Her goal is to provide clients with the tools and understanding they need to explore their values, foster personal growth, and live a more authentic and meaningful life.
Mary Ellen will soon be credentialed with Excellus BlueCross BlueShield commercial insurance plans and will be participating in select EAP benefit plans.
