Alyssa Benner
Alyssa is a Mental Health Counselor-LP at The Hope Center in the Binghamton, NY area.
Alyssa has years of experience as a licensed counselor in the Phoenix, AZ area in inpatient and private practice settings. She recently pursued NY state licensure, and is under the supervision of Kevin Hope for this process.
She specializes in trauma recovery, depression, anxiety, dual diagnosis, and relational issues in adolescents, adults, and couples. Alyssa has additional training and experience in recovery from spiritual abuse and/or toxic religious organizations. Alyssa is also an adjunct graduate level counseling professor.
Alyssa’s approach to counseling is greatly influenced on the goals and personality of the client. She incorporates various modalities into treatment including relational psychotherapy, somatic, emotionally focused, family systems, and dialectal behavioral approaches. Alyssa is also professionally trained in EMDR therapy, a evidenced based trauma treatment. She is also trained in various spiritual or Christian integrated interventions, at the client’s request.
Most of all, Alyssa strives for collaboration and cultivating self-compassion within her clients. She likes to see client’s holistically, and walk alongside them (and cheering them on) in their journey of healing.
Outside of practicing, Alyssa enjoys running, reading sub-par fiction, drinking too much caffeine, and spending time with her energetic two boys and husband.
